Today is the first day I decided to start writing about our little family so we'd always have this stuff to remember. One of your favorite shows is "Regular Show", which is where I came up with the title for the blog. We've spent many weekends together now and there's so much that's happened that's really brought us together as a family, but not exactly the "regular" family everyone thinks of. We have so many things that make us different:
You're our godson, not our biological son.
We only see you on weekends.
Your dad's a different color than both of us.
You live with your grandmother and we live in a separate house.
But there's so much that make us the same, too:
We all have ADHD and take meds for it.
We all have emotional moments where we flip out a little.
We all love to play Gauntlet: Dark Legacy together.
We all love watching neat historical stuff on tv and learning new things.
We all don't care what other people think of our family.
We all love each other VERY much and REALLY look forward to the time we spend together.
I've been wanting to do this a long time, but today, I put my ADHD aside and started typing. There's been lots of little events that have happened in the lives of you, Dad, and I that have brought us closer together and sometimes pushed us further apart. We've had moments where we didn't understand each other and moments where the three of us didn't have to say a WORD because love said it all. So, rather than let all these memories slip away, I'm going to start blogging our lives. You can read it whenever you want, which will make it so you always remember how much we love you and how much you mean to us, no matter what.
So, my first entry is like the title says; the day you found your first boyfriend!
Today you told me about your first boyfriend ever. You told us a while ago that you liked this guy at school, but you didn't know had to ask him out. You were super moody and sad about this, but it really helped you to talk to Dad and I about what to do. So, I was REALLY excited and happy for you when I called today and said you were going out with this boy (whose name I still don't know, by the way!). I thought you meant you were going to a PLACE with him, but you said this boy just came up to you and said he liked you. You said you liked him back and now you have a boyfriend! I guess in old people terms, you're "going steady".
You said his parents don't know and you guys don't want anyone ELSE to know, which is cool because it's not anyone else's business who you like. Hopefully, though, when you come over this weekend, you'll talk with us about maybe going to eat somewhere or to the movies with this guy, your dad and I so you can get to know him. I know at your school you don't get to talk much, but it would be nice to know you like a boy not just because he likes you and is cute. Having something in common is important, too!
Also, you don't know it yet, but we got a new CAR! I can't wait until we pick you up this weekend to see your face...you still think it's a lawnmower! ;-)
